COUNTRY DANCING
Scottish Country Dancing is done throughout the world -- from Scotland to Japan. The setting can be anything from an informal family gathering to a formal ball, school class, or social event. A Scottish background is not required to enjoy and participate in this dance form.
The Royal Scottish Country Dance Society was formed in Edinburgh in 1923 to preserve the old dances and to standardize the teaching of Scottish Country Dancing. There are branches and affiliate clubs in most countries, and over 10,000 members worldwide participating in classes, workshops, and camps. Besides doing the traditional dances, new ones are regularly devised and performed.
